THE INDUSTRY is an independent, artist-driven company creating ambitious productions that expand the traditional definition of opera. By merging media and through interdisciplinary collaborations, we produce works that inspire new audiences for the art form. what did I just watch
What was the Snapchat? You should have shared it with us😂
Long Beach Opera (California) did Europeras 3 and 4 around 1990. They are far more stripped down, no costumes or props or dramatic actions and more Victrolas, but it was one of the most moving things I’ve ever seen in my life. (4 is radically stripped down from 3, so the series is like opera shedding skins to find what’s essential in the form.) I’m so lucky to have seen them.
Wonderful, beautiful, and innovative
this is so cool
Raven chacon is a complete jerk and a bad human being that assaulted people for no reason he use to always want to fight me at house parties for no reason he used racial slurs all the time people should know this about him
I have always been fascinated by the Europeras and the context behind them; are they a parody of the apparent banality found in many operas, a call to dispose of them, or are they a love letter to Europe, expressing gratitude and admiration? I suppose much like the aleatory nature of Cage's music, our interpretations are indeed aleatory as well.
This looks so interesting.
Love his voice.....such a rich timbre.

Another example of Yuval's genius. Gorgeous and very exciting. The Industry is probably the most creative organization I've ever been associated with.
Very cool. Glad to know Doron and Nurit personally:)
Fabulous. Thanks.
Beautiful!
Great production values for a live performance! This aria was one of the harrowing show-stoppers where the talents of Ashley Faatoalia could be showcased and where the story line was formed, and in a production that moved across time and space. What memories of the live experience!
Deadly Belle is now a.k.a. Dirty Belle ;) Thank you for your insightful and illustrating commentary, Grant, and also for your very kind support of the production, and for seeing it at least six times? You ROCK!
This scene follows immediately after "Deadly Belle's First Turn," also posted on RUclips. Cedric Berry's strong baritone voice crosses a wide vocal range and palette. A decade ago, the opera's composer, Anne LeBaron, wrote a "Lamentation/Invocation," in which she similarly used a Japanese aesthetic of declamation. The text is very suggestive of the destructiveness of the hurricane: "What is a wader to water?" Yuval Sharon's staging is effectively straight-forward and transparent.
In a city that had been devastated by a hurricane and facing an even stronger one, the helplessness of Dirty Belle in the face of that impending total destruction -- from which even the ghosts in the cemetery are fleeing -- is expressed in Timur Bekbosunov's overwhelming performance. In the course of the opera, this scene's nihilism and despair gives rise to a beautifully redemptive and compassionate scene in the second act, also featuring Dirty Belle in that costume of condoms.
Text that arises from the earth and soars. Music that is not only in your face but also takes you higher. Singing and performance that cross the boundaries between earthiness and longing. A staging that is so overwhelming and unusual on video that the audience for the live performance would not have known what all was hitting them but still couldn't get it out of mind.

I don't get it... wait, is opera high art or low art?
Wow o.O
